1930s Scrapbook & Ephemera Hollywood Film Star Martha Petelle First Surgical Facelift
One of a kind ephemera bundle! This group of photos, articles, and pamphlets all center around the figure of silent film star Martha Petelle. Known as "Mom" for playing the Mom in a variety of mostly B level films, her true claim to fame came in 1931 when she became the first documented human to under a surgical face lift in the hopes of returning to her "flapper" youth!
This group of objects includes:
Large Black Scrapbook collecting articles and advertising on the facial surgery that was performed on actress Martha Petelle in New York City, 1931. Clippings include articles from major newspapers mostly from South America.
Pamphlet on movie “Sex Dynamite” by Lester Park, with Napoleon Hill and Howard Crum that was supposed to use film footage recorded during the actual surgical procedure. I couldn't find any info on it so would guess that it was never made
Martha Petelle booklet of headshots from her manager Minnie E Webster, NY
Three photos of formal studio shots of unknown individuals.
Twelve official Movie Still photos, documenting films Petelle starred in, some labeled on the back with name of movie, date, or info on Petelle
Two photos of Petelle’s son(?) Joseph – one solo studio shot and one marriage portrait.
Three promotional photos of Petelle, signed. 1923 – 1927. She uses her common nickname “Mom”.
If you need more details or shots of any of the writing on the backs of hte photographs, please get in touch!
