Oyster plates became must-have tableware in the mid-to-late 19th century, especially in France where oysters were prized delicacies. Established in 1758 near Lunéville by Jacques Chambrette, the St. Clément faïence factory became a leading name in French ceramics, eventually earning the designation of Royal Supplier to Marie Antoinette’s Trianon. Known for combining artistry with utility, St. Clément majolica pieces were highly prized throughout Europe. After its acquisition by Keller and Guérin in 1892, the factory continued producing finely glazed ceramics that remain collectible to this day.
