This shirt celebrates Claude Cahun's enduring influence on art and queer history with new compositions derived from one of their most celebrated photographs: a weight-training flapper who's gender is simultaneously illegible and yet undeniably on display. 

For this design we took two alternate shots from this 1920s self portrait series, less well-known than the signature image (included in this product images) and made an additional print with the text on Cahun's shirt "I AM IN TRAINING DON'T KISS ME".  Shirt available with the image and the text or just the image alone. 

These vibrant red 100% cotton T's are upcycled from unwanted promotional T-shirts discarded by a business in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We helped manage this excess garment "waste" by turning these lovelorn tops inside out and into unique pieces that celebrates queerness, transformation, fluidity and creative self expression. Traces of the original print may be visible, showing the dynamic history and layered narrative that make these shirts so uniquely anti-waste. We love them for their non-automated and DIY feel. Lichen sky color variants have been stripped of their luridly bright colors to create unique new colors inspired by nature. As we remove the dye in small batches, slight variation in tones occurs- the outcome evades strict categorization and ranges between light green/grey/blue. Dye cannot be stripped from the thread so it remains as a colorful detail that nods to the transformation process behind these shirts. 

Cut and sewn by workers in Mexico, redesigned, cleaned, and screen-printed by hand in Ridgewood, Queens.
