A most popular variety of traditional Lavender.

Latin Name: Lavandula x intermedia  Sourced: France  Production: Steam Distilled (stalks and flowers). We partner with Aura Cacia on some essential oils, and just loved this one! (It was offered in the January 2019 One a Month Club!)

Lavandin is uplifting, purifying, great for clearing congestion, to work against depression, helps with vertigo and is healing (it helps with scars & stretch marks, too.)

While it has a floral (lavender) scent it ALSO is more camphorous & herbaceous!  Lavandin is a cross between lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) which grows at higher altitudes and spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia) which grows lower on the hillsides. 

It was first formally cultivated during the late 1920s in France, and is now grown in many parts of Europe. It is a hardy evergreen bush with stronger stalks than lavender. In Southern France, lavandin is actually known as "lavande gross" (big lavender) referring to its larger flowers and plant size.

While lavender is soothing and often chosen as a sleep aid, lavandin is uplifting and invigorating! Properties include antidepressant, antiseptic, analgesic, cicatrisant (helps with scars and skin marks), expectorant (thanks to the camphorous properties), nervine, and vulnerary (wound healing). In aromatherapy, it is treasured to fight depression and help with confidence and strength. It can strengthen the spirit to overcome obstacles.

CAUTIONS: Unlike Lavender oil, don’t use Lavandin for burns! It has a different chemical makeup and the camphorous element is not good for burns -and could make them worse! Could possibly inhibit blood clotting, according to Tisserand. Caution for use during pregnancy as well.
