The gorgeous Wahl Eversharp Decoband is a great come back for the heritage American brand from the 1920s. Though the new incarnation is larger than the original decoband, it qualifies for an oversized fountain pen. The brilliant red acrylic resin used to make this pen is sensuous. The play of dark red mixed with regular tones gives the impression of a red night sky. For some reason, the Flamingo got attached to this acrylic resin in the 1930s but otherwise, it was also known as oxblood. Available with both Gold trim and Rhodium trims, the brilliant red stands out. Adorned with a large 18KT semi flex gold nib gives a great writing variation from fine to double broad with a little pressure on the hand. Another specialty of the pen is the ebonite feed which ensures the nib is wet for a longer time to provide a consistent flow. The beauty is not only in the construction of the pen and the fine material used but also in the filling mechanism. The decoband is fixed with a pneumatic filling mechanism which is nothing short of totally amazing. Unscrew the black knob and pull. The filling mechanism slides out smoothly. Finished with a beautiful Greek key design on it, the filling mechanism holds an astounding 2ML ink which ensures greater writing time. We recommend this fountain pen as a collector’s edition and one of the rare acrylic resins.
