This vintage Hermès “Cuivreries” 90 cm silk scarf is a classic celebration of the Maison’s equestrian roots. Designed by Françoise de la Perrière, the carré takes its name from the ornate cuivreries – the brass harness decorations used on working and ceremonial horses.
At the centre, a pair of powerfully drawn horses stand in full harness, surrounded by a circular arrangement of golden bridle rosettes, buckles and studs on a crisp ivory ground. A bold red border and black leather-strap detailing frame the design, creating a striking contrast that feels both regal and graphic – an unmistakably Hermès take on horse tack and harness hardware, echoing the house’s beginnings as a Paris harness- and saddle-maker.
Crafted from 100% silk twill with hand-rolled edges, this scarf is in very good vintage condition. There is some light red discolouration on the white areas and a small mark, visible on close inspection but not distracting when the scarf is worn or styled – and fully reflected in the price.
