Well struck and centered with lustrous and reflective surfaces, beautiful in hand.

Historic type: This is the principal coinage of the faction opposed to the return of Sulla to Rome. Balbus strikes as praetor by special decree of the Senate (Senatus Consulto) with the reverse Victory type anticipating success of the anti-Sulla faction.

Reverse: Victory in quadriga right, holding wreath and palm with control letter below, Q ANTO BALB / PR. (note: ANT and AL in monogram).

Victory was the personification of military triumph by the Roman Legions.
