This custom, kelp forest surfboard was created for Sam as a surfable work of art.

The kelp forest bottom deck is made of apple and cherry wood donated by Sam's uncle. We've incorporated a bat star made of cocobolo from Santa Cruz Guitar Company offcuts and three sea urchins made of purple heart donated by Upcycled Skate Art.

The top deck is made of spalted pine also donated by Sam's uncle. Look closely and you can see worm holes in the salvaged wood. This side includes a blue, resin pour of EcoPoxy mixed with Black Diamond Pigments.

The glassed-on single fin is made of mahogany from a stair rail that came from the Hudson House Inn in Cold Spring, New York. The inn was once owned by Sam's family. The Hudson House was built in 1827 and has operated continuously as a hotel since 1832. Around the mahogany, the fin has a blue, resin pour of EcoPoxy mixed with Black Diamond Pigments.

The rails are made of cork which is sustainable, more resistant to dings, and easier to repair. There are two sheets of Aerialite 4 ounce fiberglass on top and one on bottom. The epoxy is Entropy Resins bio-resin which is up to 40% tree sap and is very strong and light.

As with all Ventana Surfboards, the interior is glassed and sealed, as well.

This board is hollow, lightweight and will ride as great as it looks. Given the uniqueness of each side, it's two art pieces in one and can be flipped to showcase either side.

Includes an aluminum, museum-quality 5"x7" display sign and a handmade bag by Sagebrush Board Bags created using coffee bean sacks and unique, remnant fabrics.
