The Atlantic fluke, or summer flounder, is a master of camouflage in the Atlantic. This flatfish sports a unique oval body, with both eyes on one side, allowing it to blend seamlessly with the ocean floor. Growing up to 30 inches it's a prized catch for both flavor and sport. A skilled predator, the fluke lies on the bottom in coastal waters, ambushing smaller sea creatures, that swim too close to the fluke's toothy maw.
This exceptionally large fluke (23+ inches) is depicted on handmade mulberry-based rice paper, brought to life with oil-based ink and finished with lightfast pigments. The piece is wet mounted to ensure rigidity and archival stability.
