The bong has two levels of filtration: 1st the smoke is immediately filtered by the diffused downstem when it enters the bong; and 2nd the dome percolator in the center of the bong filters your smoke a second time before it ever hits your lungs. The final piece of functionality includes a splash guard in the upper tube which stops water from splashing up onto your lips when inhaling.
