“It will have a wide appeal, for much of the story of our historic buildings is told through the people who built, lived and worked in them – the pioneer families who still play an important part in present-day Perth.
In their analysis of W.A.’s colonial architecture, they classify the buildings into three major styles which coincide with the main periods of the State’s development.
Examples of primitive Georgian style are illustrated from Perth, Rottnest Island, Albany and Busselton between 1829 and 1850.  Fremantle and some country towns become the centre of interest during the Transitional Period 1850-1858 following transportation; while in the Third Period 1858-1885, attention centres on the capital city, whose decorated brickwork influenced colonial architecture throughout the whole state.
A fourth period following the gold rush, is briefly discussed; and the future of our old buildings in the modern community is the subject of the concluding chapter of the book.”
