Description:
A musical drama "The Soul and the Body" directed by Robert Carsen, revived in the present age after a gap of more than 400 years! The story of a couple, a man and a woman, who personify the two aspects of human beings, "soul" and "body," encounter "intelligence," "advice," "pleasure," and "guardian angels" during their journey through this world, and through repeated anguish and conflict, reach the salvation of life... In the history of music, this is a story about the transition of styles from the Renaissance to the Baroque. In 1600, the year of the stylistic transition from Renaissance to Baroque music, Emilio de Cavalieri's religious musical drama "The Play of the Soul and the Body" was performed in Rome, Italy. This work is known as one of the earliest musical dramas that ushered in "opera," a comprehensive art form consisting of solo singing, chorus, and instrumental music (including sinfonia and dances with dance) in the Monodi style, which would soon flourish in various parts of Italy. In this performance, Annette Fritsch, Cyril Oviti, Georg Nigl, and other notable singers, the Arnold Schoenberg Choir, which has raised its voice through numerous collaborations with Nikolaus Arnoncourt, and a male member of the ancient music ensemble led by Giovanni Antonini, The production, which makes full use of Robert Carsen's contemporary dance team, brings a new style to "Theatre of the Soul and the Body" that will strongly appeal to contemporary audiences.
