A few years ago, Angel Olsen launched somethingscosmic, giving her the freedom to release music on her own terms with support from Jagjaguwar. The label’s second release, Cosmic Waves Volume 1, is a dialogue-style compilation. Side A features artists chosen by Olsen, who select their own songs, while Side B consists of Olsen’s versions of their tracks. The project highlights Olsen’s creative vision and the talents of exciting, diverse artists. Olsen reflects, “I’ve always wanted to continue the spirit of discovery and collaboration, supporting artists whose music moves me.” She notes that covering other artists’ songs teaches her new things about the creative process. The album features a range of styles, from Poppy Jean Crawford’s guitar-heavy energy to Sarah Grace White’s haunting melodies, with each artist offering something unique. Olsen encourages listeners to support these artists by buying their music or sharing it with others.
